Here's a fun way to incorporate more earth-friendly activities into your life: the NRDC: Simple Steps Deck. The Natural Resources Defense Council provides 50 easy actions for a healthy home and planet, each listed and explained on a card color-coded by areas in your home. So if you have a month or only a minute to spare, pick a card, any card, and I'm sure you'll find something you could do for our environment.For example, if you have clogged drains and a free moment, forgo the toxic cleaners and instead pour four tablespoons of baking soda and ½ cup of distilled white vinegar down the drain. Cover it for 30 minutes and then flush with boiling water.

You know I've actually had a plumber tell me that there's no better way to flush out a drain than that. He said that no chemical sold on the market will work any better than some vinegar and hot water.

Baking soda and white vinegar? Really? I might have to invest in those and see what happens. Hubs likes to get carried away with the toxic cleaners and totally zaps the house of any brain cells whenever he cleans. That's why we have to schedule our outings around when he wants to clean. I suppose I shouldn't be complaining that he WANTS to clean, though, huh?
