So we have a new virus in our hands and I haven't been able to stop reading article after article on the Swine Flu (this virus contains a combo of swine flu, avian flu and human flu). It's scary to me how these things just materialize, mutate and spread.
As of now there have been 48 confirmed cases in New York City (28), California (7), Kansas (2), Texas (2) and Ohio (1). Last I read (when the count was only at 20 earlier today), all but one case recovered without a need to be hospitalized. Unfortunately, cases in Mexico have been much more serious where at least 100 people have already died from this flu.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention offers general tips on how to stop the spread of germs (wash your hands, don't touch your hands, nose or mouth, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and stay home and avoid close contact if you're sick) as well as other pertinent info. Symptoms are similar to the flu and include fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, coughing, diarrhea, runny nose, sore throat and vomiting.

so very scary!
ReplyDeleteEw. I hope this ends quickly.
ReplyDeleteIts a good time to take a trip and get away from NYC for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation!
Is it bad that I just think...flu is flu is flu is flu? All those symptoms are regular flu symptoms, and people have died from "regular" flu since the beginning of time. Just be cautious, keep washing your hands, and don't sip other people's straws. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Tooj. It's all common sense.
