Preach On Brother!

I'm only halfway through Ruiz' book, but I wanted to share a great quote I just read in The Four Agreements:

"If someone is not treating you with love and respect, it is a gift if they walk away from you. If that person doesn't walk away, you will surely endure many years of suffering with him or her. Walking away may hurt for a while, but your heart will eventually heal. Then you can choose what you really want. You will find that you don't need to trust others as much as you need to trust yourself to make the right choices."

Awesome, huh. It's all about perspective, not taking what someone says or does personally and having so much self-love that you don't need to rely on others to love and accept you. If you love yourself already, then you'll be that much stronger and able to walk away from things that hurt you. The amount of crap you put up with is just an indication of how much you value yourself. You might feel that being with this person is punishment you deserve. But guess what? You probably already punished yourself for whatever it is you think you did wrong 10,000 times and still it isn't enough.

So give yourself a break, will ya? The four agreements will be coming in shortly, namely when I have time to type them out. Enjoy your day!

  1. I have always said that human nature tends to be somewhat masochistic. Staying with someone who mistreats and belittles you is masochism. Why anyone would want to be with someone who mistreats them and hurts them is insane. Another good quote:

“The man in your life should make rich deposits into your life and spirit, not withdrawals”
