I think there's a serious problem when people are allowed to own other people through crazy facebook applications. Thus letting them send you notifications such as:
"Hey, I just bought you. Find out how much I think you're worth!"
What is wrong here?

The Four Agreements...
in Ruiz' words, are as follows:
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word: Speak with integrity, say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.
And I leave you with one final quote from his book:
"We don't need to know or prove anything. Just to be, to take a risk and enjoy your life, is all that matters. Say no when you want to say no, and yes when you want to say yes. You have the right to be you. You can only be you when you do your best. When you don't do your best you are denying yourself the right to be you."

Preach On Brother!
I'm only halfway through Ruiz' book, but I wanted to share a great quote I just read in The Four Agreements:
"If someone is not treating you with love and respect, it is a gift if they walk away from you. If that person doesn't walk away, you will surely endure many years of suffering with him or her. Walking away may hurt for a while, but your heart will eventually heal. Then you can choose what you really want. You will find that you don't need to trust others as much as you need to trust yourself to make the right choices."
Awesome, huh. It's all about perspective, not taking what someone says or does personally and having so much self-love that you don't need to rely on others to love and accept you. If you love yourself already, then you'll be that much stronger and able to walk away from things that hurt you. The amount of crap you put up with is just an indication of how much you value yourself. You might feel that being with this person is punishment you deserve. But guess what? You probably already punished yourself for whatever it is you think you did wrong 10,000 times and still it isn't enough.
So give yourself a break, will ya? The four agreements will be coming in shortly, namely when I have time to type them out. Enjoy your day!

Sex and the City...In Another Country
Ok, so for some reason the Sex and the City movie premiered in London on Monday and the first reviews have come in. The critics are split on either loving the movie or thinking it's a total bore. And as I was reading them I couldn't help but wonder...
Should I even see this movie even though I'm pretty much totally over the show? I mean, the finale didn't exactly blow me away (but then again few finales have) and it's been so long since I saw most of the 6-season show in a matter of weeks (btw, children do NOT try this at home. I thought my eyes would surely pop out.) If you need a refresher though, check out HBO. But honestly, I'm just not that excited for it. It's more along the lines of "eh, big whoop."
But then again, I know my friends are dying to see this. How do I know? Because they've been talking about it for months. When we see a poster there's always a need to say "OMG, we're seeing that!" I mean we could be total cornballs and make a thing out of it. You know...get our hair blown out, our nails all cutesied up and strut into the theater Cosmos in hand - ok maybe not, but still. It'll be a reason for me and the girls to get together and do whatever it is girls do. I wouldn't really know, I'm not really the type to shell out mad cash on mani/pedi sessions.
So will I or won't I see the flick? Hmm, I probably will. Because I'd rather see it and make up my own mind as to whether it sucks or not and because I'll probably have nothing better to do when my friends call me up last minute to schlep out to the theater.
But most of all because I miss Magda. Happy day! Happy day!
BTW: Can we pleeeaaase talk about that thing perched on SJP's head? Always going over the top with those outfits...but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and it's totally cool to wear children's art projects on your head.

Quiz Time!
So I was checking out Single-ish and one of the writers mentioned taking this weird test that lets you know your dating personality. I'm not that into quizzes, but eh, I gave it a try anyway. Yet, even though the questions were super strange, I think all in all it described me fairly well! Check out my results and let me know what you think. And please by all means - go take the test and let me know what you got!

It's like Christmastime!
Ok, so how excited am I to finally get these two books I requested from the library? Very!! I asked for Sophie Kinsella's Remember Me? months ago and with about 600 requests before me, I figured I'd probably suck it up and buy it before it was ever my turn. Well yesterday, I checked my holds online and lo and behold someone in library heaven smiled down on me and said, "Here Dorkys. There are still 300-something people before you, but you can get it anyway." Hollerations to that :)
Sophie is probably my fave chick-lit writer so far. Or maybe that's because I didn't read much chick-lit until my friends in grad school said I just needed to read Confessions of a Shopaholic. After that I was totally hooked. Although Becky Bloomwood is hilariously stupid at times, you can't help but cheer her on as she tries to find some way to get those sold-out super expensive shoes she just has to have, hide the bank statements written in red ink, and try to get the collectors to give her just a little more time to pay them back. She's just an awesome character and I always speed read through all of Sophie's books (I've read every book in the Shopaholic series to date as well as The Undomestic Goddess). I bought Can You Keep a Secret? a year or so ago, and it's still collecting dust on my bookshelf - I've been so busy and all these other books keep popping into my life!
One such book is The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz. My coworker and I have been on this whole zen/being-at-peace-with-one's self trip and she recommended this book to me. I had heard of The Four Agreements before from my therapist, but hadn't gotten around to reading it. Well after my coworker lent me her copy of Mastery, I just had to read The Four Agreements soon after, so, of course, I requested it from the library and had it sent over to my branch (man I love this system). With the previous book, I learned so much about myself and how I was treating my family, friends, my now ex-boyfriend and it made me think about why other people do the things they do. Why they feel the need to protect themselves so much and in turn hurt those around them. Ruiz wasn't preaching or putting his reader down, but just presented his toltec teaching so simply and effortlessly and that I ate it all up in a matter of days. I can't wait to read what he has to say in this one.
In fact, I'm reading The Four Agreements first (even though I've been dying to dive into Sophie's book for ages). Why? Because I'll be done with it in a matter of days, the sooner I can put these lessons into practice the better, and afterwards I can just sit back and fully enjoy Remember Me? Plus, what's better than reading about personal growth and getting rid of needless suffering and then getting into another book where the main character will probably go through all sorts of craziness in turn making everything harder than need be?

Happy Friday!
So after a very rude awakening where I was up a whole hour before my alarm was supposed to go off, I decided to start up a Friday ritual to start the day right. Get ready for some awwws...

Mariah + Nick: Still not over it
I still cannot believe these two ran off and got married last week. Some say "Aww, it's true love and this will last," but I can't help but trumpet "I give it two months tops." I mean I know some people move at the speed of light, but I'm skeptical that those relationships last if you don't take the time to know each other. I mean how well could they possibly know their spouse, outside of IMDb that is. Whatever happened to this little thing called dating and, much later on, engagement? Am I being old fashioned here?
At least she had some sense to get a prenup - and apparently a Mrs. Cannon tattoo to match. Oh the things you do for love...and album sales.
Heads up! Patrick Dempsey? Still hot!
Last Sunday, my friends and I finally went to go see Made of Honor with Patrick "Yummylicious" Dempsey and that girl. Now of course I knew what to expect - we all knew what to expect. And in typical rom-com fashion, the ending was pretty much, well, typical. But still, I'd sit through any 2 hour movie, lame or not, just to see that cute, cute man. Hey, I even sat through Enchanted even though I was so not in the mood for all that lovey doveyness at the time.
But although I knew what was in store, I was actually not disappointed at all. I found the movie funny, sweet, and not annoyingly predictable. And did I mention how hot Patrick is? Just look at him!!
Now 27 Dresses is a whole 'nother story. That movie was as good as those gowns. And I doubt it was because I was also not in the mood for the romance mumbo jumbo.
Wow, I sound like an ice queen. I think I'll just keep pretending 1 out of 3 ain't bad.
So what are your all time fave rom-coms? I think Kate & Leopold tops my list, for now anyway.

Guess who's back...
Ok, so it's been practically a year since I signed onto this thing, but I decided to give it another go. Maybe this time I'll actually stick to it and not bore myself.
If you guys have any tips on what makes an awesome blog, by all means share! Lord knows I could use some advice. Right now I have a couple blogs that I make sure to check daily. One's a site that keeps tabs on all the crazy stuff our wonderful, intelligent, and moral celebs do. It gets a bit over the top sometimes but it usually gets a laugh out of me.
And then there's my new guilty pleasure, Glamour.com's new dating blog Single-ish. It's only been up a couple months, but the two bloggers are cute and funny to boot! Not to mention, those comments can get out of hand too.
So what blogs do you guy hit up on your spare time (or when you should be doing work instead)?
